Lutheran Community at Telford - A History

Beginning in the early 1950's, pastors of North Penn faced an ever increasing need to provide care for older people in their parishes. For several years, meetings were held and surveys were conducted to identify these needs and set up a program to address them.

1957 - Property on Washington St. was purchased to build a "home for the aged."

1962 - First residents admitted to LUTHERAN COMMUNITY AT TELFORD.

1965 - Two cottages built and occupied, five more to follow.

1967 - Eight rooms added to main building, Main building accommodating nursing and personal care residents.

1968 - Eight cluster apartments built on Church Rd., the first of these type units built in the area.

1978 - Twelve additional apartments built on Church Rd.

1983 - Construction of 75 bed nursing wing adjacent to main building.

1984 - Former nursing rooms converted into 35 apartments.

1987 - Eight duplex units constructed.

1991 - Ground breaking for Harbinger Terrace, an 86 unit apartment building; Second floor added to nursing wing to house 57 personal care residents.

1992 - Harbinger Terrace and personal care occupied and conversion of original personal care rooms to 14 apartments, bringing main building apartment total to 49.

1996 - Lutheran Community receives full national accreditation from the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission, demonstrating a mark of excellence.

1999 - Expansion plans begin for an addition to the Community's healthcare wing to provide additional office and storage space, a new thrift shop, and an activity room.

2000 - Health care annex expansion completed providing resident activity rooms, a new thrift shop and additional office space.

2004- The Meadows, a 50-unit apartment building and 34 twin cottages, completed on 14 acres across from the original campus.

2010- Groundbreaking for new four story healthcare center.
